Peripheral artery disease (PAD), also known as vasoconstriction and considered these days as an endemic disease, is a form of general arteriosclerosis. 30% of those suffering from this disease die in 5 years if the problem is not recognized and treated.
The Egis pharmaceutical factory - the sponsor of the event - has been a dedicated partner of doctors, pharmacists and the population in fighting cardiovascular diseases for more than 100 years. When treating these diseases, the company takes the first place in the confidence ranking and most Hungarian doctors offer their patients products developed and sold by Egis. The screening tests combined with free medical consulting attracted more than 1000 visitors. Every second visitor also attended the ankle-brachial index test, which is a routine test - without pain and intervention - for detecting arteriosclerosis.
The early detection of peripheral artery disease can even save lives as PAD patients have a double chance of heart attack or stroke. In addition, the disease publicly known as arteriosclerosis can go without symptoms even for years. This is exactly why it is an important result of the test that the existence of arteriosclerosis proved to be likely for about 16% of those attending this year’s PAD Day, therefore the doctors and the screening staff proposed to 87 exposed participants to see a specialist.
In addition to the screening test results - either reassuring or calling for action - those interested could also learn about the pulse self-test that later helps everyone to check the condition of the limb veins on their own, even at home.
